Dear people in need of care, dear family caregivers,
how are things going for you right now? Do you feel comfortable here online? Are you finding enough practical patterns and suitable guidance to help you get through the day?
Caregiving can lead to social isolation, so I thought I’d start a thread for sharing experiences, if you’d like.
Hi everyone
I feel very comfortable here with you all. Unfortunately, I can’t crochet everything I’d like to, and it takes me a little longer, but I’m still doing my best!
I don’t just have osteoarthritis in my knees and fingers—unfortunately, I have a few other issues as well—but I don’t want to complain right now....... ;)
Thank you for creating this site.
Love, Corinna
Yes, I have osteoarthritis all over, but also a worn-out spine, polyneuropathy, and nerve inflammation that has become chronic in my hip area. But thank goodness I have a very loving husband who takes great care of me and is always there for me.
My crafts—whether it’s knitting or sewing—have helped me get through many a gloomy hour. The inspiration I often get here is really great, and what I’ve liked about this place from the very beginning is the help and support everyone here receives.
But complaining doesn’t make things any better—on the contrary, it doesn’t change a thing ;-)
I have a husband who now requires a great deal of care. Over time, you learn to cope with it. And, as Corinna and Inge have already written: Complaining doesn’t get you anywhere.
What helps me personally is knitting and crocheting. It’s also really nice to experience the friendly atmosphere in the forum. Things have gotten so bad on the internet.
That’s actually how I got back into crafts—back when my husband needed care—and it really does help get you through some tough times. My husband passed away at the beginning of the year, but I still love crafts—that’s something that’s here to stay.
From experience, I can only give you all this one piece of advice: develop a thick skin and hang in there—nothing else helps. It’s not exactly easy, of course, but outside support is scarce and not at all easy to come by.
And yes, it really stands out—the atmosphere in this forum is truly exceptionally warm; a real exception on the web.
Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well and had a nice Christmas? Things are so-so!
Thank God I have a wonderful husband who supports me in everything and is my caregiver; my youngest son also calls every day to ask if everything’s okay with us???
I have to say, I’m really glad Christmas is finally over!!!
Best wishes, Corinna
