What do you need when traveling?

You definitely don’t want to run out of craft supplies, do you?
(Spotted at Gardermoen Airport in Oslo)

Have you also found craft stores in places you wouldn’t have expected?

That really is a great spot for a craft store.

You’re allowed to knit or crochet on the plane, after all. So it’s a good opportunity to buy something if the flight doesn’t leave on time after all.

Definitely better than coffee to go

That’s exactly what I thought. Or better yet, instead of perfume, candy, or liquor. Who really needs those anyway? 😉

How awesome is that! No, I haven’t seen one anywhere else quite so unexpectedly.

Oh, I’d love to pass the time in that store while waiting. Everyone can find something nice there to take along on their trip. What a clever idea! I’m always happy just to see a craft store anywhere—I wouldn’t care where it was.

Love, Ina

I was on vacation in Fuerteventura for several weeks without a craft project. After three weeks, I was getting so restless that I ended up at a huge Chinese market looking for supplies. It had a nice selection of cotton yarn and the right crochet hook (I’d traveled completely empty-handed), so I ended up crocheting Platschi, the doorstop frog. Vacation saved!

I thought you weren’t allowed to do anything involving needles on the plane, so I traveled without any, but I saw a few ladies knitting and crocheting. Well, the flight wasn’t that long, after all.

In Denmark, I’ve often found craft stores in pretty small towns, but this one at an airport was a real surprise.

@Schnuckelina
Yeah, these days you’re happy to find any craft store at all!

@ghw
You managed to go a whole three weeks without it! How nice that you were able to find another source.

@Karola—I haven’t flown in many years.

  Back then, you were still allowed to knit and crochet. On my flights to the U.S., that made for a very pleasant—and, especially over so many hours, a productive—flight.

Once, I crocheted a lot of granny squares for this blanket and then continued crocheting while on vacation—though it still took 20 months to finish.

Wow, Petra, that would be exactly my kind of blanket—such beautiful shades of blue. It would probably take me much longer......

We flew back from Gran Canaria on December 8, 2025, and had our crochet supplies with us. The flight attendant politely pointed out that it wasn’t allowed and that we should put them away quickly, since otherwise she’d have to confiscate them. 🫣 So, unfortunately, the rules vary a lot.
Wishing everyone a wonderful and creative Christmas season

Hi ARI,
in that case, you should definitely check in advance to see if it’s allowed to take your knitting needles out on the flight. Thanks for the tip.
Best regards, Karola
