Princess seams

What is the advantage of princess seams?

Anyone who has ever worn a blouse, dress, or jacket with Viennese seams can see the difference. They flatter a woman’s figure. The garment doesn’t just hang straight down; instead, there are darts at the waist (under the bust and at the back) that follow the natural contours of a woman’s body. I’m a big fan of Viennese seams.

Here are a few more things I’d like to share about Viennese seams. A hoodie I sewed about 10 years ago and a jacket that’s at least as old and that I still wear. Both pieces were sewn using the same hoodie pattern.

I really like these Viennese seams—or simply the split cut.
These seams flatter the figure much more and give you more design options with a single garment.

They’re just easier to sew, and you don’t have to deal with those annoying bust darts. Those always have to be sewn very precisely. And I don’t like waist seams either.
