Dear Community,
What’s the advantage of starting at the toes when knitting socks?

One advantage is certainly that you can use up all the sock yarn and don’t end up with any leftovers. You simply keep knitting the leg of the sock higher and higher until the 50 g is used up.

For people who don’t know what to do with leftover yarn, that’s definitely practical. For me, it wouldn’t be, because I like to use leftover yarn to try out a new technique or an interesting pattern, for example.
Also, my increases (for the foot width) never turn out as neat as my decreases. That’s why toe-up isn’t my favorite method.

Ever since I discovered the toe-up method, this has become my favorite way to knit socks.

I haven’t tried that yet. But just knitting on and on just to use up the yarn definitely wouldn’t be my thing—I prefer relatively short socks.

I also prefer to knit toe-up. I really like the toe shape because it doesn’t taper to a point. And if you’re knitting with leftover yarn, you can adjust the leg length.
