Dear Community,
Record-breaking temperatures are expected this week. What are the temperatures like where you are right now? Are you okay? Are you still working on your crafts?

Nothing stops me from crafting, but I have to admit that I handle the heat pretty well. Here in Cologne, we’re already approaching 30 degrees again, but the air is still quite pleasant, and at night you can still air out the place nicely. It only gets bad when a thunderstorm is on the way—Cologne tends to be terribly humid and stuffy anyway, which makes it more than just uncomfortable and pretty low on oxygen.
But as I said, it’s still bearable (for me)—the laundry’s already hanging on the line, my crochet supplies are ready to go, everything’s great. And for emergencies, I’ve got two fans standing by.

Well, I’m really struggling with the heat—I’ve got circulation problems, headaches, swollen legs, and so on. The fan’s been running here almost nonstop for days now. I’ve got cooling pads wrapped around my head and neck.
Tomorrow I have two appointments outside the house that I have to attend; I’m already dreading leaving the house, but unfortunately, I have no choice.

Love, Inge

I live in the attic—unfortunately, not all the windows have shutters.
My daughter and I have the fans running full blast.
Mine’s on the ceiling, and my daughter has a pedestal fan.
We did our shopping this morning.
We’ll save our crafts for the evening.

Oh dear, that sounds like heat stress over there.

We’re probably all wondering how we’ll get through the next few hot days. But we used to have summers and hot days back in the day, too—and somehow we managed.

My go-to plan is always the basement. Luckily, our house has a basement. When it gets unbearable upstairs, I’ll happily head down to tidy up the basement. And in the evening, I come back up. Taking a lukewarm shower is always a good idea—and so is some cool peppermint tea.

Since our grandchild is staying with us on this hot Wednesday, we’ve set up a little wading pool for him under the shade of the fruit trees. Let’s see if that’s enough. If not, we’ll have a basement party together.

So, hang in there. Summer is summer! And be sure to drink plenty of water or tea!

Warm regards, Ina

We had concert tickets on Sunday—we went to Bonn to see Billy Idol, with New Model Army as the opening act...
The whole thing started at 6:15 p.m., and we stood “front of stage” for about 4 hours.
That was pretty tough in the heat, but luckily we were in the shade of the stage right from the start.
Afterward, we walked about 3.5 km along the Rhine promenade back to the hotel; the air was much cooler there, and after the crowds, we were able to catch our breath a bit and enjoy the beautiful sky.

I go out to the meadows at 7 a.m. to get food for the turtles, then I water the garden. After that, I hop back and forth between the house and the garden to see where it’s bearable for me.

Unfortunately, I don’t handle temperatures above 28 degrees as well as I used to. So I just stay inside or in a shady spot when the breeze blows through. Reading and doing crafts are always options.

It’s gotten pretty warm by now, but I can still crochet—I’m working on some teddy bear legs.

I was at the dentist’s a little while ago, and the thermometer read 38° :-(((
You just kept sweating and fanning yourself—even though the AC was running, it could barely keep up with this crazy heat. I should mention that my dentist’s office is right in the middle of Schweinfurt’s old town, so the heat really builds up in there.

Love, Inge

Of all times, I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow at noon—I hope their air conditioning is working well.
What’s even more annoying is that the apartment is gradually heating up too, so I won’t be getting much sleep tonight.

Have you recovered from last week’s high temperatures?

Oh yes, at least here it’s been nice and cool the last few days—last night at 4 a.m. it was 12 degrees, so it’s been great for airing out the heat from the apartment. Until the next heat wave.

Yes, it’s pleasant here, too.
The sun is shining brightly, but there are a few clouds here and there and a nice breeze.
