Dear community,
What was/is your biggest craft project? Would you start a project like that again?
Uploading your own photos is always a good idea.

My biggest project was a knotted rug that I made perhaps 35 years ago. It’s definitely at least 2.20 meters in diameter. That was a lot of threads that I knotted. The rug is now in my sunroom and keeps my feet warm.

I also once embroidered a cross-stitch blanket for my niece when she was born—that was 37 years ago. All made from leftover yarn. The designs are my own. The back is lined. I don’t know if she still has the blanket today. Unfortunately, there isn’t a larger photo.

Best regards, Ina

As for whether I’d take on such a big project again today, I don’t think so. Big projects take a lot of time, energy, and perseverance. These days, I prefer smaller projects. That way, you can try out lots of different things—and you’re not tied down to just one. But of course, when you finish a big piece, it’s something truly special.

Best regards, Ina

Some of my biggest projects are still unfinished, but I’m already using them

First, my quilt. It’s sewn together and I’m already using it on the patio while I read, but I still have quite a bit of quilting and hand-stitching to do.

Then there’s my garden shed. It still needs a second coat of paint on the inside, and I still need to add some shelves.
But it’s been in use for a long time.

And, of course, my finished granny square blankets.

For my grandson

And the school cone for my grandson was also a fairly big project for me

Yes, I’d take on all these projects again. It was a challenge—and in some cases, it still is until they’re finished. But it was a lot of fun.

Wow, what mega-projects—each one more beautiful than the last.

My biggest project was this mosaic granny square blanket, and I’m incredibly proud of it.

Andreas, that’s amazing. How big are the individual mosaic pieces? And how heavy did your blanket turn out to be?

Petra, thank you. The individual squares are about 24 cm x 24 cm. Since I crocheted it with cotton yarn, it’s also a bit heavy. I didn’t weigh it.

This has been my biggest crochet project so far.
It took me a while to get everything together. The sequins for the headpiece were especially hard to find.

The head itself was crocheted relatively quickly, but the small parts… well, those took me a lot longer.

I definitely won’t be making a second elephant head.

The biggest project I’ve ever crocheted is my squirrel. It almost reaches my hips 😉.

Another one that turned out really big was the dinosaur head

At the time, I was really tempted to make something that big. Right now, I don’t have any plans to do something like that. But that could change at any time 😅.

I have two more large projects here that are still in progress—so they’re far from finished.

See for yourselves

The top blanket currently measures approx. 73 x 54 cm

The bottom mosaic blanket measures approx. 74 x 61 cm

There are still quite a few crochet rounds to add.

This was my first big quilt—a bedspread for our bedroom, 2.20 m x 2.20 m. I hand-quilted it myself; it took me several weeks to finish. I made it about 20 years ago.

Best regards, Inge

And that was my biggest project—a bedspread for my youngest daughter for Christmas, measuring 2.30 cm x 2.40 cm. It took me weeks to finish it. I did quilt this bedspread with a sewing machine, though.

Best regards, Inge

These 4 quilts took a lot of time because they’re entirely handmade—nothing was done with a sewing machine. I hand-pieced the star quilt for my sister, my youngest daughter got the yellow one, my middle daughter got the striped one, and my oldest daughter got the flower garden quilt.

Best regards, Inge

I knitted a cardigan as a top-down raglan. Otherwise, I usually knit socks or wrist warmers.

I crocheted my biggest projects when I was a student and a young teacher: a two-piece set and a summer dress. I showed the dress here once, but I can’t find the picture right now, and I don’t have a picture of the other one. In recent years, I’ve made elaborate placemats in DF and several shawls, as well as two baby blankets:

I just realized that I absolutely have to put all my craft photos into a separate album…
