French seam

Dear Community,
what is a French seam used for?

I use a French seam when I’m sewing a new shopping bag and am too lazy to get my serger out to get a clean seam edge.
Here’s how to sew this seam: First, place the fabric pieces right sides together and sew them, then turn the whole thing, place the pieces wrong sides together, and sew them again.

P.S.:
The second seam is placed so that the cut edge of the first seam is no longer visible and is completely hidden. My daughter and I also call it the *lazy seam* 🤣😁

Yes, I used that seam back then for the kangaroo pouches—during the massive wildfires in Australia. It helped reduce the risk of injury. With an overlock seam, the claws could still have gotten caught in the thread loops.
