Sewing a Quilted Coat

Dear Community,
Can you sew a quilted coat with a simple home sewing machine, or is that not a good idea?

It’s possible if you’re patient and a good sewer. However, using pre-quilted fabric is a big advantage. What you should do, though, is work with the tension and presser foot pressure and keep adjusting them—then it’ll work even with a basic sewing machine.
I once sewed a coat for my daughter back in the ’90s—not a quilted one, but one with a thick, removable winter lining. It was a poplin coat, ankle-length, with a 20-centimeter box pleat in the back, about 8 metal buttons sewn on at the front, and a detachable hood. The lining was also made of poplin and had thick batting. The coat was something my daughter had really wanted, and I spent a good eight weeks working on it. She wore that coat for years with pride and joy. I sewed the whole thing on a simple sewing machine that I’d paid about 150 DM for back then. I had to keep adjusting the presser foot pressure and, above all, the thread tension. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the coat.
