Sweatpants

I bought some sweatshirt fabric this week to make a pair of warm pants; I sewed them today, and I’d already cut out the pieces yesterday. This time, I even added pockets to the pants :-)

Dear Inge, you’re so hard-working—but those new glasses really want to show off what they can do. I think pants with pockets are great. Where else would you put a tissue or a piece of candy?

Best regards, Ina

That’s right, Ina—all that stuff has to go somewhere, after all :-) ;-)

This afternoon, I sewed myself a vest from the scraps from the pants and the red long-sleeve shirt from 2023. It’s not quite finished yet—the front closure and the hem band at the bottom are still missing. I used a hoodie pattern because I needed something with panel seams :-)

Best, Inge

Thanks, Veronika :-)

So now the vest is finished, and instead of a zipper, I used KamSnaps. I like it better this way.

Hugs, Inge

I also took another photo of the pants from a different angle

Best regards, Inge

Wow! And you’re beaming just as brightly as the blue sky! It’s nasty, gloomy, and foggy here.

So cute, so cute, dear Inge!

I love long tops like that (like the one underneath), and the outfit really works. I’d wear it exactly the same way. ♡

Meanwhile, I’m trying to figure out how to sew something into the waistband of a pair of sweatpants that’s way too tight... So the pants fit, but the waistband is way too tight (no elastic). Before I got into sewing, I just cut into it with scissors—now it looks really awful.
I think I’ll have to cut off the waistband and just add some wide elastic? What do you think?

Anja, cut off the waistband, make a drawstring channel, and thread an elastic through it—that’s how I do it with most of my pants. But don’t forget to leave an opening in the channel to thread the elastic through—that happened to me once when I was starting out, too. I sewed the waistband all the way around, and then I had to unpick about 2 cm to thread the elastic in :-))

Haha, Inge, I’m so glad I’m not the only one this happens to.
For the waistband, I have to measure my waist, but it’s a little bigger than the part of the pants where it goes… so how do I get it to fit?

You can unpick a little bit along the back seam and insert a small gusset—that way you’ll get the width you need, but measure very carefully or the whole thing will end up too wide. You can also use a different color for the gusset and topstitch it in a colorful pattern to make it stand out—then it’ll look just right. :-)

What a nice professional exchange! Dear Anja, I wish you the best of luck. We’d love to send our repair projects to Inge… but I guess we’ll have to try fixing them ourselves.

That reminds me—I also have a pair of leggings that are way too long at the top. I need to cut 10 cm off and resew the elastic waistband. But I’ll save that for later. I have to do projects like this when I’m really in the mood for them; otherwise, it won’t work out. Cutting them off is quick, but you have to make sure they turn out neat again.

Dear Inge, I really like your newly sewn two-tone outfit. First, because all the pieces go together so well. Second, because it’s made of sweatshirt fabric. It looks so soft and cozy—just the thing for winter. Third: The wine red and dark blue harmonize well, and the colors suit you exceptionally well! It’s only in daylight that you can really see what the colors look like in person. The warm shade of red really flatters your complexion. Fourth: Everything is sewn with love and tailored just for you—it doesn’t get any better than that!

Enjoy your new clothes.
Warm regards, Ina

Dear Ina,

I don’t know if you’ll like this, but I have an idea for your leggings that are too long.
Why not just fold the excess fabric inward and sew it down with a flexible stitch?
That is, if the fabric on the inside doesn’t bother you.
