Are You Hoping for Yarn for Christmas?

Dear users, dear designers,
is yarn on your Christmas wish list? What are you wishing for? 

I don’t have anything specific in mind—I’m treating myself to the LaCritza Advent calendar again, which is always generously stocked. But I usually get surprised with yarn because everyone knows what I’m up to, and then it’s really exciting to pick out matching patterns.

I don’t want any more yarn. If anything, I’d ask for a gift card for fabric. But I still have plenty of fabric waiting to be sewn. So I don’t really need any new fabric, but things can change quickly...

Then a little grandchild comes toddling along and tells me that unicorns are their favorite animals. What’s a grandma supposed to do in that situation? You have to keep an eye out for unicorn fabric!

Let’s see what the Christmas elf has in store for me this year.

But I, too, am not asking for wool or fabric. I still have so much in my stash that needs to be used up first. It’s not going to get any better just by sitting there (but it won’t get any worse either 😊🧵🧶).

Has the idea that “Christmas yarn” equals yarn given as a Christmas gift become a myth by now?

I don’t think so. I’m sure many people will receive yarn as a Christmas gift because they enjoy knitting or crocheting—or because they’d like to start knitting or crocheting and are looking for a starter kit.

But when it comes to crafts, preferences tend to change from time to time. Still, I think there will be quite a few craft and DIY supplies under many Christmas trees on Christmas Eve. 

As a gift, I’d rather have a gift card from a yarn store than yarn that’s already been bought. That’s because most of the time, the people giving the gifts don’t really know exactly what kind of yarn and what colors I want. Usually, I already have ideas for specific projects in mind that I’d like to bring to life.
