House of Lights

SWR featured a “House of Lights” the other day, so I tried making one myself, but I’ll stick with just this one—my hands just can’t handle those little curves and corners anymore; they start cramping up, and then I can’t hold anything. That’s why I also outlined the window and the star on top with adhesive lace—I didn’t want to end up with another TfT.

I’ve now given the templates to my daughter—she can still manage it, since there are three sizes of the little house.

That’s funny—mine just got finished too



The purple is still fading away, disappearing.

But my interfacing is too thin. Now I’m going for a walk to the fabric store in the neighboring village to get some advice.

And then I want to sew some big ones, because the ones from TV are too small for me, too.

Inge, I really love your windows with the border. 

They’re so pretty! I still have some pre-cut cardboard sheets lying around here for light houses—I really need to get around to making them soon.

Oh, what a lovely idea. The white houses are so atmospheric. It seems the two of you were watching the same show. I can well imagine that it’s very fiddly when you’re sewing on lace or borders. I like it both with and without lace.

I think the top of the roof looks a little bare. But the window is the real eye-catcher, because that’s where the light shines too. So I’d focus more on highlighting the window. Maybe you could embroider a little “stucco” detail? Oh my, I know that’s not so easy. But if I were designing a house like this, it would need some decoration around the windows.

Ina, on the show they also glued on some rhinestones to the top part.

But I was so focused on sewing that I even forgot the border. After this first attempt, I’ll definitely add some “embellishments” to the next ones.
