Provisional cast-on, I-cord cast-on, binding off with I-cord

would you like to share your thoughts on provisional cast-on, I-cord cast-on, or binding off with I-cord?
I read about this in a product description and would love to hear your thoughts on it. 

Well, depending on what you’re knitting and how you want it to look, all of these techniques have their place.
Let’s say you’re knitting a hat sideways—in that case, a provisional cast-on is helpful because it allows you to create a completely invisible seam. That is, provided you know how to join two edges with live stitches using Kitchener stitch. I’ve often knitted scarves using a provisional cast-on and then joined the live stitches together to form a loop.

Casting on or binding off with an I-cord can help make a boring edge prettier or more sturdy—or simply add some weight to it.
