Dear users, dear authors,
today is Count-Your-Buttons Day, according to the calendar.
How many buttons do you have?

Count them? Oh no! 🤣 I have two boxes full of old buttons that my mom used to save, and then another one where I collect all the spare buttons that come with my current clothes. And every now and then I actually use some of them, but that’s pretty rare.

You can also count the buttons on the clothes you’re wearing right now—that’s faster. ;-)

Oh my goodness, Josefa—you’re really asking a lot of us there :-)))))))) I have a big box that used to hold a drill—it’s full of buttons. I wouldn’t even be done counting them by Christmas :-))) ;-)))

Best regards, Inge

I can’t count my buttons—that’s impossible. I got my button collection from both of my grandmothers, from my mom, and from my friend’s mom. And I’ve been collecting them myself ever since I started doing needlework.

Back in the day, people used to cut the buttons off before throwing away clothes. So over time, a lot of buttons accumulate, and you have a selection when you need some.

My passion for collecting has saved me a lot of money, because after a long search there is always a suitable button to be found.

Sorting them was also a nice activity for our grandson. The many shapes and colors, often animal buttons too, kept him busy for quite a while.

OK, I could count them, but phew, I don’t feel like it right now.
The only thing I’ve got on me is a zipper. :-)

I also have a big box full of buttons in my stash. So I can always find something that fits a craft project. But I don’t collect regular blouse or shirt buttons anymore. These days, I’m more into jewelry and decorative buttons. They’re great for adding beautiful accents, like on my felt booties, for example:

Best regards, Ina

Oh, look at that—what a great button.

I loved playing with buttons when I was a kid. ♡

This is just one of 8 or 9 buckets (yogurt buckets) full of buttons… I’m not even counting them 😂
I love buttons.
I’ve loved buttons ever since I was a kid.
I also pick up every button I see lying around—you never know when you might need one 😁

My kids can keep themselves entertained with buttons for hours on end ❤️

I have a drawer full of buttons:

large buttons
small buttons
colorful buttons
solid-colored buttons
figurine buttons
unusual buttons
round buttons
square buttons ... and ... and ... and

I still have a project floating around in my head: making a picture out of all these little treasures. But time is, as always, a problem ;)

Hi everyone, I’m joining the group that says I can’t count my buttons. I, too, have various boxes and little chests full of them—inherited from my grandma and a few other people—and yes, I often need and find some in my collection.  And you know what? I’m absolutely thrilled right now that I’m not alone and that I used to love playing with them so much as a kid. I still like to let them trickle through my fingers 🙈 By the way, I just used four from the boxes for the shawl collar that Mom is getting for Christmas. 😇 Best regards, Marita

Oh no, I don’t want to count my buttons—I’d rather spend that time knitting. I don’t exactly have boxes full of them, but I do have lots of children’s buttons and a few older ones from clothes I’ve gotten rid of. There are also some laundry buttons, snaps, and press-on buttons. Plus—oh, the shame—a few stray buttons that should have been sewn back on ages ago—not exactly my favorite pastime!

I don’t feel like counting them right now either.
I don’t have quite as many as you do. I still have a few from my mom, and the rest are mostly mini buttons for my amigurumi and clothes (a small sorting box full of them).

You can do a lot with buttons. I’ve also seen that you can crochet around them, or stack them on top of each other from largest to smallest—then it looks like a Christmas tree.
There are lots of ideas, but not enough time for everything.

Can you make pictures out of buttons?

I’m not sure if this counts as a picture—but pretty decorations are always a good idea.

By the way, this is my Christmas sweater from last year.

There are also lots of buttons here, some of which are still from my mom. At some point, I bought an old sewing box, and there were a bunch of buttons in there, too. My stash is growing faster than I can use them up.
