Sewing Nicki fleece

Dear users, dear authors,
Are there any tips for sewing Nicki fleece? I’ve heard that this fabric can be a bit slippery when sewing and therefore isn’t suitable for beginners?

Sewing Nicki fleece is actually no different from sewing any other fabric—you just have to make sure you sew all the cut pieces together in the same direction. That’s because Nicki is a pile fabric, meaning it isn’t woven as smoothly as cotton or linen, but rather is a knitted fabric. That’s why velour always has a grain direction, which you can tell by the fact that when you run your hand over it, the fabric appears either lighter or darker. It looks lighter when you stroke it with the grain and darker when you brush against the grain. With velour, as with all pile fabrics, the only way to handle it is to pin, pin, and guide the fabric carefully while sewing. It looks silly if I mix up the directions—that is, sewing one side with the grain and the other against the grain.
Velvet and terry cloth also fall under the category of pile fabrics. With a little practice, though, velour is easy to work with; the only thing that personally bothers me about these fabrics is that they shed like crazy when you’re cutting them.

Best regards, Inge

I’m currently sewing with a fabric similar to Nicki and wanted to show you what it looks like with and against the nap.
The top is against the nap and the bottom is with the nap; you can see that the top is quite a bit darker than the bottom, brushed with the nap.

Best regards, Inge
