Upcycling—that's when something new, beautiful, and maybe even useful is created from things you would normally throw away.
Here are a few examples from my shop:

For this
lucky piglet, the plastic capsule from a chocolate surprise egg was crocheted around. You can open the piglet and hide a little surprise in its belly. That way you get another surprise once the chocolate egg has been eaten.

You don't have to throw away cardboard toilet paper rolls either, because you can crochet around them too and make really charming figures from them, such as
Chef Charly. The upper body can be removed, so you can use Charly as gift packaging. Give him together with a special recipe, a dinner invitation, or a cash gift!

And empty jam jars can also be reused. Here, one is turned into gift packaging for (homemade?) sweets. With the
candy jar "Penguin Mom with Baby"
only the lid is crocheted around, so the jar can be washed without any problem.
