Today I’m introducing you to a few animals from my collection that I crocheted because they were chosen as
“Animals of the Year”:
In 2020, it was the mole. That’s how
Poldi the Mole
came to be. I crocheted him in 2 versions. On the left in the picture, you can see him crocheted from cuddly-soft chenille yarn. This really shows off his velvety fur. If you don’t enjoy crocheting with chenille yarn, you can also crochet Poldi with cotton yarn, as shown on the right in the picture. He looks just as cute that way, don’t you think?
In 2021, the otter was the Animal of the Year. So I designed
Otti the Otter
. He has just caught a big fish with his fishing rod and is already looking forward to his feast. I crocheted Otti from cotton yarn; only the belly patch and the snout were made with plush yarn.
Birds are also chosen as animals of the year. In 2021, bird lovers were allowed to vote for the first time, and they chose the robin by a large majority. Many legends are woven around the
Robin
. In the Anglican world, it is also very popular as a symbol of Christmas. So crochet yourself a robin too—it will make a fitting decoration all year round!
