Working with PU leather

Do you have any tips for working with PU leather?

One of the most important things when sewing leather is a Teflon presser foot, so the leather can glide smoothly under the foot and doesn’t bunch up, wrinkle, or shift. A leather needle is also helpful—it pierces the synthetic leather more easily. But here’s what you need to keep in mind: think carefully beforehand about how you’ll sew, because if you have to rip it out, you’ll end up with perforated seam lines. That’s because this material doesn’t close up again like fabric does. PU leather is also great for embroidery with an embroidery machine—it always looks good. You should also stay well away from a hot iron, because the material sticks to the soleplate and shrivels up as well.
