Needle sizes for knitting machines?

What needle size does a mechanical knitting machine use? So far, I’ve only been able to find information on suitable yarn, such as yarn for needle sizes 4–6. You can also adjust the machine’s knitting behavior by changing the tension.
I’m wondering what needle sizes a machine like this can knit with? And can this be controlled well to achieve an even result?
Do you always have to use all the stitches for circular knitting, or does it work with fewer?

I’ve always had good results with sock-weight yarn.

Can a knitting machine be adjusted so that I get a specific gauge? When I knit by hand, I get, for example, 22 sts x 19 rows for 10 x 10 cm.
Or is that something I can’t control?
