I have leftover sock yarn in a wide variety of material compositions.
Have any of you knitted these scraps together, or would you rather advise against it?
It depends on what you want to knit with it. For a blanket, I don’t mind if the yarns are different, but for clothing and such, I’d make sure the composition is fairly uniform—unless that’s the look you’re going for, of course :-)
Hi Inge,
well, I wanted to use the leftovers to make socks again—for example, the cuff, heel, and toe in a solid color, and the rest in a colorful mix from another scrap.
If it’s all sock yarn and the gauge matches, then you can certainly use it together to make colorful socks from scraps—the properties won’t differ that much.
Hi Veronika,
yes, that’s what I was thinking too, and I’ll give it a try. But if anyone has had bad experiences—for example, when washing them—it would be a shame to waste all that work ;-).
Best wishes, Carola
Hey everyone...
I knit almost exclusively with sock yarn, in all kinds of different blends. Mostly shawls, wrist warmers, fingerless gloves, and the like. Since I order from different dyers, the blends are usually a bit different. So far, I’ve never had any problems washing them.
As Veronika wrote, always go by the most delicate yarn. I put all my pieces in the washing machine on the wool cycle.
Hi Steffi, hi everyone,
and thank you very much for your reply, too.
Except for a few pairs of socks made from Regia Merino Yak, I wash them all in the washing machine at 30–40 degrees, either on the wool cycle or the “easy care” program, using Perwoll.
