Happy Weekend + International Women's Day 2024

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Today is International Women’s Day 2024. How are you marking the occasion?

I just find it sad that women still need a day like this in this day and age. We’re all supposed to have equal rights, regardless of our gender.

There’s still a lot of work and persuasion to be done.

Well, these special days are a bit of a mixed bag—whether it’s International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or whatever else—it’s really not enough to just acknowledge them once a year and leave it at that. What’s the point if the remaining 364 days are just the same as always?
For me, it’s similar to the issue of gender-neutral language—if it doesn’t sink in, none of it amounts to much. But well, you’re supposed to stay positive; it’s definitely better than nothing.
It’s still pretty chilly out here, but the sun is shining, which really lifts my spirits, and it was enough for a quick break on the balcony. Wonderful.

I only realized it was Women’s Day today because no one in Berlin answered the phone. It’s a holiday there today, but not here in neighboring Brandenburg. Other than that, I don’t attach any special significance to the day. Discrimination against women happens all year round and everywhere—and the finger-wagging on Women’s Day doesn’t change that.

We have a lovely weekend ahead of us. Tomorrow we’re invited to our 2-year-old granddaughter’s birthday party. There’ll be lots of playing, laughing, eating, making a mess, and goofing around—what more could you want from a perfect day?

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend. It’s still very cold here (freezing temperatures at night, and sunny during the day, but very cold). Spring is coming anyway! Today I’ve already spotted the first wild bees in my garden.
