Dear users, dear authors,
on March 31 it’s Easter. Do you have Easter traditions that are important to you?

Oh yes, plenty for Easter.

It all starts in early March with my Easter branch or tree. We hang Easter eggs outside the house.

On the Friday afternoon before Palm Sunday, I go to church to tie the palm branches for the Palm Sunday service.

On Maundy Thursday, we have an Easter bonfire in our garden. In recent years, we’ve always been lucky and the weather has been great. We sit around our big fire pit, grill sausages, and look forward to a long weekend off with lots of family.

On Good Friday, we’re invited to my mother-in-law’s for dinner, and on Easter Sunday, everyone comes to our house for breakfast and to hunt for Easter eggs in the garden.

It’s been the same every year for many years now.

I look forward to it and hope these traditions will continue for many years to come.

Back then, almost 33 years ago, I moved to Cologne to be with my husband in early March. The first thing my mother-in-law taught me: Good Friday is cleaning day in Cologne! 🤣🤣
No, other than that, we don’t really have any traditions—most of them ended when my niece got older. We used to hide eggs for her and go on an Easter bunny hunt. Now we put up a few decorations, but otherwise it’s a weekend just like any other. And no, I don’t tear the whole place apart every Good Friday—I clean evenly throughout the year. 😂

Yes, a few. One of them is always baking about 4–5 Reindlinge with different fillings and treating my family and friends to them. Of course, I freeze some, too.

I had to look up right away on the web what Reindlinge are. Hmm, they must be super delicious. What different fillings do you make?
The web said cinnamon and raisins.

The most popular one is the one with cinnamon, sugar, and raisins. Then there’s the filling with ground hazelnuts added. That’s my favorite. And it tastes best as an Easter snack with ham, horseradish, and hard-boiled eggs. Simply delicious.

I once made one with dates and pistachios. That one wasn’t as well-received.  But you can also use walnuts, pecans, apples, apricots,........ Just be creative and give it a try.
