A new case...

...for my little screwdriver. The old one had served me well for 10 years and can go now, since it’s no longer in good shape. I sewed the new one a little bigger right away, because it turned out that a few more small parts are joining the collection, and then it gets cramped in the case.

Love, Inge

How practical! And so beautifully quilted—it looks really great!

Really great, Inge. By the way, how do you get the quilting to look so perfect? Is that a preset function in the program? I don’t have a sewing machine as great as yours. Is it lined?

We can still learn a lot from Inge, and also from Ina's sewing skills.

Andrea, every good sewing machine comes with a ruler that you can clamp onto the needle bar, and adjust depending on how large you want the diamonds to be; these here now have a spacing of 2.5 cm. The outer fabric is old bed linen, and the lining is a leftover piece of lining taffeta. I pressed the whole thing with a volume fleece about 0.5 mm thick.

Best regards, Inge

Dear Inge, you’re always showing us yet another side of your talent. We mere mortals would probably have had to go looking for a fabric that’s quilted and padded like that. You just make these things yourself. But no, “easy” isn’t really the right word for it. That’s something for experts. My sewing machine doesn’t have a needle bar like that, nor such a large metal plate with lines.

In any case, your screwdriver case is very beautiful and useful.

Best regards, Ina

@Ina, but you can make these diamond shapes yourselves even without the equipment I use. All you have to do is draw the lines with a ruler and then sew along them. It’s best to use a tailor’s pencil or tailor’s chalk—which you can just barely see—or what I used to use: a soft pencil to draw thin lines. If you stay right on the line, you won’t see them afterward, and after the first wash, they’ll be gone anyway. You just have to measure and draw the lines very precisely and accurately; it’s a bit time-consuming, but the end result will be impressive.

Best regards, Inge

Ah, now I finally know what that rod among my sewing machine accessories is for 🤫!
