Happy Start of Carnival Season, Everyone

Nope, Carnival has been passing me by without a peep for years now. It wasn’t a big deal for my husband and me even when I was young.

As a kid, I loved dressing up and all that—though we lived in Essen back then, where things are pretty low-key.
Ever since I’ve lived in Cologne, we’ve actually always tried to escape during Carnival. We used to live downtown, right in the thick of it, and that’s almost unbearable.
Now, out here on the outskirts of town, you hardly notice a thing—thankfully, since we can’t travel anywhere anymore.
But I hope everyone has a wonderful Carnival season; today, the weather gods have been kind and kept the rain at bay. The people of Cologne always like to claim that God must be from Cologne, because He always sends nice weather for Carnival. Well, okay, it hasn’t always worked out that way, but it really has very often.
