Can I give a pattern away as a gift?

Hi!
I’m brand new here, but I’ve already found a few great patterns.
I’d like to share one of these patterns with my friend because I’ve already printed it out for myself and am almost done with it.
But she said you’re not allowed to do that.
Is that true?

first of all, thank you very much for your honesty. That’s not something to be taken for granted.

Unfortunately, your friend is right, because you still have the digital file, and by printing it out you have reproduced the pattern.
So, from a strictly legal standpoint, it is not allowed to pass on either the printout or the file.
But I’ll give you a tip:
Contact the author and discuss it with her.
Many authors are very accommodating and allow sharing within the family or closest circle of friends.
