Good morning,
I’m a beginner—a complete beginner.
My problem right now is that I don’t know how to figure out how much wool or yarn I need for a project.
Sometimes the information is listed on the label, but how can I estimate it roughly?
Thank you in advance for your helpful answers. Dörte
The yarn requirements are listed in the pattern. Your project uses a specific type of yarn, yarn weight, needle size, and stitch pattern—all of which affect how much yarn you’ll need.
I’d try estimating and weighing it out.
Yes, definitely don’t buy too little—after all, you don’t know yet how tightly or loosely you might end up working. And some of the measurements in the patterns are calculated very precisely, so I always prefer to add a little extra, just in case you can’t buy that specific yarn again later or something like that.
I remember that there used to be an option where you could return unopened skeins to the store for a refund.
But that only works if you can buy them in person and don’t take years to finish the project.
Yes, unfortunately! I used to do that too, but now there aren’t any yarn stores left around here. That’s why I shop online, and you can’t do that anymore.
