I like to use leftover yarn and fabric scraps to make doll clothes for my granddaughters’ dress-up dolls. That way, the little dolls are always dressed in the latest fashion, and the leftovers are put to good use. I can often also reuse fabrics or yarn from the doll moms’ favorite clothes that they have outgrown, and then they are especially happy when they rediscover a favorite piece like that on their little doll.

The
mermaid outfit for small dress-up dolls looks especially wonderful in aqua tones. For the greenish fishtail, sock yarn and a glitter yarn were used together. For the turquoise fishtail, small leftovers of scrubby yarn could also be used up.

Every little dress-up doll needs at least one
princess dress! This combines sewing and crochet. The bodice ind the overskirt are made from glitter yarn, crocheted and edged with shiny scrubby yarn. The underskirt is a leftover piece of sequined or foil jersey that I once used for carnival costumes. Even beginners can dare to try the sewing here, because the underskirt is just a rectangular piece of fabric that is sewn to the overdress with a few stitches. You can sew it very well by hand and don’t need a sewing machine for it.

And finally,
simple sewn doll clothes made from scraps of stretchy fabrics. Here, too, everything can be sewn by hand. The tops, the mini skirt, and the leggings are made from cuff fabric, and they don’t even require a sewing pattern. The pajamas are made from an old pair of pajamas that belonged to my granddaughter. For them, there is a very simple raglan sewing pattern that you can print out.
