Many skeins of sock yarn are wound in such a way that a striped Norwegian pattern forms naturally. You can take advantage of this to knit great little doll sweaters—without ending up with floats on the back that make it difficult to dress the dolls and would often make the sweaters too thick for small dolls.

These 3 sweaters are knitted using the top-down raglan (RVO) method and fit both male and female dress-up dolls measuring 29–30 cm. Patterns for a matching hat are also included. As you can see, the striped pattern is always a little different, depending on where you started with the skein. When knitting the sleeves, you may need to unwind a little yarn so the sleeves match.

Do you have leftover sock yarn with a soft color gradient? In the right colors, it’s perfect for crocheting realistic fruit! After all, what fruit is truly a solid color? See for yourself:

The apples, peach, pears, and kiwi were crocheted using sock yarn (Jawoll Magic). You can see, for example, how the color of the apples changes from red to green, or how the peach changes from yellow to orange.
