Dear users, dear authors:
In this thread, authors can showcase patterns that have been completely revamped and spruced up.

Not every pattern becomes a bestseller right away. We definitely have patterns in the shop that are worth revising—or where the full potential of the pattern only becomes apparent after the photos and text have been updated.

It would be great if you could give these revamped patterns a friendly look. Maybe there’s a project in there that will inspire you.

You’re also welcome to give the authors feedback on the patterns they’ve featured and let them know if the revamp was worth it.

@Authors,
You can feature a maximum of 3 patterns per author. CR and sales figures don’t matter, but the featured pattern must be significantly better than before. It would be great if you could showcase your pattern with a small before-and-after comparison. Why not share a bit about what you changed or revised in the pattern? This will help readers understand how much work goes into a pattern and also give new authors—or authors who want to improve—a great opportunity to learn.

I hope you all have a great time here in this thread.

I first listed Midori as a green tablecloth.
To be honest, at the time I didn’t give much thought to the quality of the photos.
It was more along the lines of: You can tell it’s supposed to be a tablecloth.

Photo from the early days:

Much later, I wanted to photograph this tablecloth again, but after a move it could no longer be found.
So I crocheted it again with different yarn and a slightly different color, which means there are now 2 versions in the pattern.
The current photo took me many attempts at image editing until the brightness and everything else looked right.

I have changed the product text again and again.
Most of the time, they were very short texts in the style of “here you see a round tablecloth.”
My latest description turned out much longer.

At the beginning, there was no (supplementary) crochet chart for Midori; it was added later.
Creating crochet charts is something I find difficult.

The PDF pattern contains 6 pages with written step-by-step instructions, detailed photos, and a supplementary crochet chart.

Finger Puppets Elephant, Giraffe, Crocodile

This was one of my first patterns. The original product image looked like this:

I had simply placed the little animals on a shelf and quickly snapped a photo, and you can tell, because they aren’t well lit and are quite blurry.

Since there were also a few typos in the pattern, I completely revised it, corrected the errors, and took new photos of the work steps. The crocodile also got a tail.

I also rewrote the product text on Crazy Patterns and adapted it to the usual Crazy Patterns format. And of course more new photos were added too, e.g. this one, showing the animals in their African home:

So, now I hope you like the pattern in its new look! Have fun with it!

This summer I’m giving all my patterns for doll clothes a refresh. I have to take new photos of all the models. Of course, I’m also taking the opportunity to look over the pattern itself. And I was quite surprised by what there was to improve. It’s not about the contents of the pattern, but about the image quality and the formatting.

My patterns are always set up in table form. For each work step, there is a description and a photo. Back then, I probably wasn’t very good at formatting yet. The images were always right up against the table line, and when there were several images, they were stuck together one below the other. I have now corrected this “visual flaw” while revising the images. Everything is now much more attractive and easier on the eyes.

Pattern 1: Fresh Summer Fashion for Small Dolls

Here you can crochet 7 different models. They can all be wonderfully combined. The old pattern from 2018 didn’t include a bag yet. I thought the dolls absolutely needed a beach bag to go with their summer outfits—and that is now included in the new version.

Pattern 2: Long Dress with Slit

This pattern is also from 2018. It had the same “formatting weaknesses” as the previous one. Since I no longer had all the dresses from 2018 for the photo, I knitted some new ones. While I was at it, I also added to the yarn recommendations. There is now sock yarn in neon colors that works very well for this. Children love bright colors.

Pattern 3: Princess Dress

This dress is knitted. While creating the new photos, I noticed that over time all the dresses had “gained length.” The stitches had stretched out, and all the dresses were lightly dragging on the floor. I didn’t like that. So I knitted the dress again and changed the number of rounds. Now it fits perfectly. It is such a beautiful dress and so easy to knit—it’s a secret favorite of mine. And my granddaughters love it very much too. It simply looks impressive and is still easy to knit.

I, too, have been busy this summer re-photographing the models for doll clothes. Of course, the pattern is also being checked and improved in the process.

The old crochet pattern for an ice skating costume for dress-up dolls also included instructions on how to make doll ice skates out of hot glue. But I have now discovered a new modeling clay (silk clay) that air-dries and becomes slightly elastic and rubber-like after drying, roughly comparable to craft foam. This material is ideal for shaping doll shoes, so I have added craft instructions for this silk clay to my crochet pattern.
In the picture below, the doll on the left is wearing ice skates made of hot glue; the doll on the right has ice skating shoes made of silk clay.

Originally, I had posted the two-pen case as a pattern for advanced knitters. In the meantime, I’ve come to the conclusion that the case also looks very pretty and is just as practical when knitted without increases and decreases. That’s why I’ve completely revised the pattern. The new version of the pattern describes two variations of the case: one with increases and decreases and one without. I’ve taken and included many new photos for both versions. I’ve also created a video to further illustrate how to open the pencil case compartments. The pattern is now so detailed that even beginners in the double-face technique can follow along and make this pencil case. A great weekend project that makes use of some pretty leftover yarn. The case makes a lovely gift for a dear friend, but it’s also perfect as a gift for children or men!
