I went to buy some yarn :-)

I want to knit myself a jacket, so today I bought the yarn—it’s 60% cotton, 30% viscose, and 10% spandex, exactly what I wanted: cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I saw the color and was blown away—that’s just how it should be :-)

Love, Inge

I’d like that, too. For some reason, I’m really into those soft shades of pink right now.

I can’t wait to see what you whip up with it.

Is that pale pink yarn?
Colors on screens aren’t always accurate.

It’s more of an old rose shade, Josefa, but for those who still remember *The Thorn Birds*—*Ashes of the Rose*—that’s the color, and it goes great with all the things I’ve sewn that I’ll be able to pair with the jacket :-)

Love, Inge

Dear Inge, I’m glad you bought some yarn. Now you’ll have a change of pace from sewing. And you can always take the yarn with you to the couch in the evenings—but not the sewing machines :-)

The color wouldn’t be my style, but if you like it, that’s all that matters. I hope you have lots of fun knitting your cardigan. Are you knitting it freehand or following a pattern? And will it be a top-down raglan cardigan?

Best regards, Ina

Me again… what’s the yardage of the yarn, and what needle size are you using? I’m trying to picture the stitch pattern from your gauge. Maybe we’ll get to see it.

The yarn is knitted with 4 mm needles and has a yardage of 230 m per 100 g
I haven’t knitted much yet, but you can already see a little bit
At first I knitted a test swatch with 4.5 mm needles, but I didn’t like the stitch definition, so out came the 4 mm needles :-)

Best regards, Inge

Hi Inge, your creativity really knows no bounds.
How do you manage to do it all... amazing!
I can’t wait to see more photos of your jacket.

Hugs, Petra

Inge, the yarn looks great, from what I can tell.
That’s exactly the kind of color I’d go for right now. Could you also use this yarn for crocheting?

I think you could crochet with it too, but you’d need a crochet hook that’s thick enough—the label says to use a size 3–4 hook. I’m knitting with a size 4 needle

Dear Inge,

using a smaller needle size is a good idea. Especially since the stitches will stretch out a bit, and if the needle is too large, the fabric won’t look as firm.

I know you’ve probably already done this, but for everyone else reading this, I’d like to emphasize again the importance of a gauge swatch, especially for garments. Otherwise, the garment won’t fit right later on, and you’ll be frustrated.

Work the gauge swatch (approx. 15 x 15 cm) in your desired pattern, then wash it and let it dry flat. Now count how many stitches there are in a 10 x 10 cm section. Then compare this to your own body measurements.

Best regards, Ina

Oh, one more thing—for anyone wondering why you should wash the gauge swatch:
Because, depending on their composition, yarns can either shrink or stretch/stretch out when washed. And you wouldn’t notice that with an unwashed gauge swatch. You might end up with a beautifully knitted jacket that, after washing, is twice as long as it is wide. So always measure the washed swatch first, and only then start on the actual knitted piece ;-)

So now you can see the knitting progress better, since it’s already a few more centimeters longer :-)

Just an update on the cardigan—I’ve started the pattern now.

Best regards, Inge
