Sewing for Beginners / Using Up Fabric Scraps

Do you have any tips for using fabric scraps ?

I found an affordable pattern for beginners and fabric scraps in the shop.

Rabbit Pattern

As a beginner, the first thing you need to learn is how to sew a straight seam. Good projects to start with include doll bedding or a simple shopping bag. With a doll pillow or a shopping bag, it’s not a big deal if a seam turns out a little crooked. Cotton fabric scraps work well for these projects.  Later, you can try making simple doll clothes—stretchy fabrics work well for this. Even here, a few crooked seams aren’t such a big deal
The dolls certainly won’t complain 😉

I always recommend that beginners cut woven fabric scraps into squares—I cut mine into 10cm x 10cm pieces. These are then collected and eventually turned into a beautiful patchwork quilt. It’s a lot of fun, and you get to enjoy those lovely fabric scraps all over again someday :).

I collect jersey scraps in a box (I now have two boxes). When needed, I use them to sew underwear or socks, infinity scarves, or hats, depending on what’s needed and the season.

Don’t throw them away under any circumstances!

Exactly, you can still sew great things from them. I’m currently sewing small blankets for our children’s charity, all from fabric scraps.

Fabric scraps are great—they give you so many wonderful opportunities to get creative and just try something out. It’s no big deal if it doesn’t turn out right.
