Baby Sizes / Children's Sizes

Dear users, dear authors,
this might be a naive question, but where do baby sizes end, and at what point do we start talking about toddler or children’s sizes?
Are children’s sizes generally determined by height?

It depends on the child, Josefa. There are petite children who still need so-called baby sizes at age 4, and then there are children who already fit a size 104 at 18 months because that’s already a toddler size. When my three girls were each around 8 years old, they had very different clothing sizes—the oldest easily fit into a 128, her sister, who was 2 1/2 years younger, already needed a 140, and my youngest daughter needed a 152 by the time she was 8. So as you can see, you can’t really make a blanket statement about where it ends and where it begins, because this continued all the way from infancy until they became teenagers.
But generally speaking, you can assume that baby sizes go up to size 92/98, and toddler sizes start at size 98.

Yes, children’s sizes are based on height.

Babies usually start at 50/56. There are also very small sizes starting at 44, usually for premature babies.

I’d say baby sizes go up to about 86/92.

Toddler sizes start at 98 and go up to about 110.

My son is now 6 and wears size 116—just as a reference. But he’s on the slender and small side for his age. It can be quite different for other children.
