Dear users, dear authors,
Have you tried anything new lately (not just new things in crafting) that you’ve never done before? Was it worth it?

Hi Josefa,

yes, I actually cut my three youngest kids’ hair myself. That was seven weeks ago, and even now their hair still looks good. So it was definitely worth it 😊
Also, last week I fixed my cordless vacuum cleaner, which I use for “the little bits of dirt here and there” 😂.
It has a rotating brush that suddenly stopped working when I turned it to the left. So I grabbed a screwdriver, took the thing apart, and found a broken wire. I quickly stripped a little insulation off it and patched it up with a piece of heat-shrink tubing. And now it’s vacuuming perfectly again 😊

Best regards—Nina

Last summer, I worked at our nursery for five days… I had to spend hours cutting off shoots and planting them in little pots with potting soil… I’m a pro at it now… I always think it’s good to try new things… Actually, EVERYTHING is just a matter of practice.

Cutting hair—that’s right, I tried that too, and now I cut my husband’s hair myself. It works great, and only the first time did I cut one side a little too short. 🤣
We used to have a hairdresser who came to our house, but not just for a men’s haircut—that wasn’t enough. And I don’t need to go that often anyway; I wear my hair long, so at most I just need to trim the ends, which I can do myself.
I’m just not ready to go gray yet, so now I dye my hair myself, too—that’s working out well now as well; you never stop learning.

This is our latest project.
We bought some furniture from the ’60s and are currently restoring it.
We’ve already sanded it down.
Unfortunately, it’s too cold in our garage right now to stain it. So the project is on hold until the weather improves. Whether it was worth it—we’ll see then. It’s definitely fun, though.

I went to laser tag for the first time. My son had asked for it for his 11th birthday, so we all went last Friday.

I’d thought beforehand that it definitely wouldn’t be my thing, but what wouldn’t you do for the kids!

Well, I was way off! I had a blast and I’ll definitely do it again :).

Best regards,
Sonja

In February, I made orange vinegar for the first time. I always felt so bad about throwing away those fragrant orange peels.
And what can I say? It tastes wonderful and is so easy to make.

And since it was such a “wow” moment, I’ve now also started making orange oil. But that has to steep until after Easter.

I also love seeing what kinds of things everyone else is trying out. It always provides wonderful inspiration.

Dear Josefa,

thanks for the question—it’s so exciting to see all the different things people have tried here :-)

I started learning to play the guitar last November. It’s so much fun!!! At first, my fingertips hurt pretty quickly, but now they’ve gotten used to it. I can already strum a few little songs and sing along at the top of my lungs (though I only do that when I’m home alone *laughs*).

Best regards
Sonja

At the beginning of the year, I replaced the inlet hose on my dishwasher because I was hoping that was the only reason it wasn’t running. That wasn’t the problem, but now I know how to replace hoses.

Last week, for the first time, I completely removed my toilet tank, cleaned it, descaled it, and put it back together. Fortunately, that led to the desired result, and the toilet tank now works like new.

Both were definitely worth it, if only for the learning experience.

I started cutting my own hair during the pandemic, and now I’m really good at it—it saves money and time :-) Since I have crooked hair and curly legs ;-)))):-))) at first, it wasn’t even that noticeable that I’d cut it myself, but now people always ask me which hairdresser I go to :-) and where I get my hair cut—I always answer, “On my head, where else? :-)))”

Best wishes, Inge

I’ve also started cutting my own hair now, and during our home renovation (all DIY), I learned how to insulate the roof with insulation wool, replaster walls, lay water pipes, and apply joint compound to drywall. I already knew how to do everything else ☺️

I’ve actually started cutting my own hair now—but only Leo’s. At 3, he still doesn’t care what he looks like 😇😅
No, seriously—it’s not that bad! It actually turns out pretty well. But I don’t dare try it on adults.

Other than that, I’m currently trying my hand at more and more vegan recipes. My sister eats mostly vegan, and since I really like it too, I’m always trying new things! Cakes, lasagna… all kinds of stuff. Sometimes it works out well, sometimes not so much. But I’m getting there!
