Since we didn’t do anything other than get together with family, Christmas was wonderful again. We love sitting together and get along really well—plus we had a delicious meal. What more could you ask for?
With this lousy weather, the Christ Child probably preferred to stay home; at least I didn’t see him either.
Unfortunately, our Christmas celebrations were pretty much canceled due to the flu outbreak. My son battled a fever of just under 40 for two days, I had a slight fever, a stuffy nose, and all the other symptoms that go along with it... so we weren’t really in the mood to celebrate.
Now that we’re feeling better, we’re hoping we can at least celebrate New Year’s Eve a little bit.
No, not this year either. I don’t know why I always miss it. The Christ Child.
The holidays are lovely, though. You sit comfortably with family and friends.
The food tastes great, and everyone is laughing with joy.
But today we had spaghetti for lunch. Man, after all that meat, it was SO DELICIOUS. LOL
Since we don’t exchange gifts—at least as a couple—the Christ Child had time for many other families.
We had a delicious meal—mushroom cream sauce with red cabbage and potatoes.
Unfortunately, my son and his family couldn’t visit because the whole family is sick. What a shame! Now I’ll probably have to pack the gifts into a package and send them. I’m already a little sad about it. I would have loved to see the children’s eyes when they receive their gifts.
In any case, we’re healthy, and that’s the most precious gift of all.
I wish everyone who’s sick or suffering a speedy recovery. Have a great start to the new year.
Thanks for asking, Josefa. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the Christ Child, but Christmas Eve at my daughter’s was very nice. My daughter and granddaughter are carrying on an old family tradition—I was so happy that they, too, played some festive music at home before opening presents.
My husband and I spent the two holidays alone, but today there was a big family gathering at our youngest daughter’s house with all three daughters and the grandchildren.

No, I didn’t see the Christ Child—since my husband and I don’t exchange gifts, it didn’t show up.
The holidays are all well and good, but I’m still battling a bad case of the flu. On top of that, I had a fever of 39 and diarrhea. I spent most of my time sleeping.
So my husband cooked our Christmas dinner—he put so much effort into it—but I was full after just a few bites, even though it was so delicious (smoked pork loin with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes). I just had no appetite.
My fever has gone down a little, but I’m still dizzy and weak.
It’s no fun. I hope I’ll be back on my feet by New Year’s Eve. I’m on sick leave until January 6.
I’d like to wish everyone who’s sick a speedy recovery, and hope the new year will be a little calmer.
