Sewing on paper or paper piecing

The pot holders are also sewn using the paper piecing method

When sewing on paper, the pattern is printed or drawn onto the paper, and then the fabric is sewn onto this paper with the right side facing down. Once the block—that’s what we call the pieces that are later assembled—is finished, the paper is peeled off or torn
away. I’ve drawn these blocks myself very often.

These squares on the door hanging are all sewn using PP = paper piecing

Best regards, Inge

Learned something new again. I hadn’t known about this before either.

The pot holders are great.

Do you use fabric scraps for them?

That looks absolutely amazing.
I had no idea something like that existed.

PP
I’ll have to stop by the craft store sometime and get some advice.

Best regards

Lovely gift idea

You can use fabric scraps if you have any lying around, but many people buy fabric specifically for projects like this to ensure everything matches.
Sina, you won’t find much information about this at a craft store, since it’s sewing and not crafting. If you’re interested, I’d suggest going to a fabric store and seeing if you can find a woman who’s skilled at it, because not everyone knows how to do it.
But try typing “paper piecing” into the Google search bar—you’ll find plenty of resources that explain it.

These pieces look great, but why use paper? Can’t you just sew fabric directly to fabric?

No, Veronika, unfortunately that won’t work; as I said, google PP and you’ll see it’s a topic in itself,
the blocks, the drawn ones, that you see there are by the way the ones for my mandala that I showed recently

Inge, is this the same as what you did this summer with your granddaughter when you were sewing together?

I just took a look at it. It’s sewn by hand—I like it.

I’ll have to browse the web some more.
