Dear users, dear designers,
do you have nativity scenes / do you like nativity scenes? Do you have real / edible gingerbread houses, or do you prefer calorie-free crocheted gingerbread houses? Tell me about it.

Here I have a crocheted nativity scene, also great for leftover yarn.

Here’s another cute little gingerbread house, also great as a Christmas tree ornament.

But yes, at Christmas, the decorations can certainly be a bit more lavish, and I think gingerbread houses are great. I just finished one:

Veronika, your gingerbread house turned out beautifully. I’ve been toying with the idea of making one myself.

Yes, I really love nativity scenes and gingerbread houses.

Every year, we make a gingerbread house with our grandson (using store-bought parts), and I think we adults enjoy it more than he does. Our grandson is more interested in snacking on the decorations if we don’t glue them on fast enough.

For me, Christmas definitely includes a Christmas tree and a nativity scene—preferably with as much as possible handmade.

When my children were born, I made these nativity figures out of self-hardening modeling clay:

Now I also have crocheted nativity figures displayed in my hallway.
I started with the
Holy Family.
Since then, I’ve expanded the nativity scene to include shepherds and the Three Wise Men:

Dear Josefa, judging by your enthusiasm and the many ideas you’ve shared, it’s clear that YOU really enjoy gingerbread houses and figures. I can totally understand that. I also love looking at things like that. Who doesn’t know the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel and, while reading it aloud, always imagine the gingerbread house that the children snacked on?

For those with a playful spirit, these are still lovely decorations today—as are nativity scenes, of course, though those are more for religious reasons. I enjoy looking at them, but we don’t really have things like that on display at our house. We don’t have that much space for decorations, so we have to be selective. We have other favorite pieces that we like to display.

Warm regards, Ina

Yeah, the space.... you’d have to live in a 400-square-meter house. 😂
We inherited a huge old nativity scene from our in-laws—a complete set with dozens of figures—and we used to set it up every year. But when we moved, there just wasn’t room for it anymore, and it was too nice to let it gather dust in the basement. We asked around a bit and then donated it to a children’s home, where it’s still in use today.
But the crocheted little house is much smaller—it fits nicely, with some nice lighting, on the sideboard in the dining room.

You’re showing some beautiful things here. I’m a huge nativity scene fan and make a new one every year—or at least add a little something to it.  When my kids were little, I knitted one, too.
Otherwise, most of mine are made of wood. I have a really big one for outside; the neighbor kids move the figures a little further along every day.
This Advent path was the last one I made. I still need to find the rest of the pictures.
