An Advent calendar is a wonderful tradition that shortens the long wait for children until the Christ Child comes. In the past, people had simple calendars with little pictures; nowadays it’s usually a chocolate calendar. But an Advent calendar doesn’t always have to be filled with sweets!

How about crocheted finger puppets, for example?

The Finger Puppets Snowman, Santa Claus, and Moose can be quickly crocheted from leftover yarn in the appropriate colors. They’re sure to be lots of fun for children, because with them they can invent and act out their own imaginative Christmas stories.



Warm winter clothing for the little dolls is also a good idea for filling an Advent calendar for little doll mommies. The pieces are quick to crochet, and you only need a few bits of leftover yarn for them.
Here, for example, is a pair of overalls with a quilted jacket and headband, which you can make for male and female fashion dolls.



On December 6, St. Nicholas comes and brings a little preview of Christmas. There’s usually fruit and nuts, and maybe even a small toy. All of that has room in these pretty St. Nicholas gift bags, which are crocheted from Christmas sock yarn. At the top, the little bags have a fur trim made from plush yarn. You can make them in any size you like.

I always like gifts that are not only beautiful, but also practical. Otherwise, sooner or later they end up lying unnoticed in a corner. So I’m happy to give you a few suggestions here for lovely and practical things you can crochet for children.

Board games
These can be washed if you’ve been nibbling chocolate beforehand. You can roll them up and take them anywhere. There is a “game board,” “playing pieces,” and a matching bag. Everything is crocheted. You’ll find more games in my shop.



Princess dress
Doll clothes are always welcome—especially when they are this cuddly and pretty. The long dresses are wonderfully light and fluffy and absolutely enchanting. You can knit them with or without beads. If you like, you can also make a matching sleeve scarf. That way the doll moms always have something to dress up and play with.

What could be nicer than handmaking new clothes for a doll mommy’s favorite? For me, it’s always a highlight. My two granddaughters keep asking for new clothes, and of course they’ll get some from me for Christmas too.

How about this colorful knitted cardigan in a mix of patterns? It is worked with raglan from the top down, using various colorful leftovers. There is also a matching hat in the same colors, which is very easy to knit.

The clothing fits dolls measuring 43-50 cm.

You can make a toddler very happy with this sleeping bag for a stuffed animal or a doll up to 20 cm tall. Maybe there’ll even be a new doll or teddy inside it under the Christmas tree?
