Dear Josefa,

I wish you and all the readers a wonderful weekend, too.

We’re invited to a barbecue tonight. Since our son and grandson had birthdays, we’re celebrating together today. The sewn reversible loop scarves and beanies will also be given to our grandson as gifts.

This weekend is all about relaxation ... just doing whatever we feel like. Lunch is already prepared, so I’ll have time for my crafts.

Best regards, Ina

Thanks, Josefa. I wish everyone here a wonderful weekend, too.
My pajamas are cut out, so I’ll start sewing them. The soul warmer will have to wait a bit until I continue knitting it—it’s a nice change of pace.

Love, Inge

I wish you the same! And of course, have a great weekend too!
Nothing’s happening here, since I can’t walk. I had knee surgery ages ago, and every few years it acts up—it usually lasts a good week, during which I can’t keep my leg straight or put weight on it, and then eventually everything’s fine again. The first two times, I rushed to the ER in a panic because I thought the screws were coming loose from my bones, but everything’s still fine—no one knows what’s causing it.
Thanks to various delivery services these days, it’s not a disaster at all—we’re very relaxed, we’ve got our first Federweißer at home along with lots of other treats, we’re reading, crocheting, and we’ve even got a few DVDs lying around that we haven’t watched yet.

Thank you! I also wish everyone a wonderful weekend to start autumn with plenty of yarn.

Veronika, I wish you a speedy recovery. I hope you’re feeling better now that the weather has changed.

We’re also spending the weekend relaxing. We did a lot of walking on vacation to explore the area.
I still have a few days off, which I’ll spend doing needlework. Maybe I’ll turn my Wunschbobbel yarn cake into a triangular shawl or a thin scarf.

First up are the mini bags for the Christmas calendar (pattern by Elke Eder)—they’re still on my to-do list.
So, I won’t be bored.

Veronika, I hope your knee gets better soon. I hope it doesn’t hurt too much, because your plans sound great for the weekend.

My vacation week is now over, and we have a quiet weekend ahead of us with a trip to the flea market. I’d also like to make some cake in a jar, and we’re planning to have pizza tomorrow night.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and hopefully sunny weekend

Veronika, get well soon with your knee—I know what that’s like; I already have my second endoprosthesis in my left knee, and it’s been cut open five times. That’s when the nerve endings start acting up. At first, I thought prosthesis No. 2 was botched just like the first one, but it’s rock-solid and fits well. When it acts up, I take my drops and that’s that.
For me, the most beautiful season is just beginning—I love fall in all its facets, even the gray and dreary weather

Best regards, Inge

Thanks, guys—I’ll be fine, and I have some ibuprofen at home, too. My husband used to have to go shopping, but he can’t go out anymore either—that was always my nightmare. But it’s not that bad; there’s nothing that can’t be delivered to the house in a reasonable amount of time.
I don’t really like fall at all—I’m a summer person. But after this summer, the cooler days are actually quite pleasant, and so far it’s still sunny. Once the constant rain sets in, though, I definitely won’t like it anymore. I really need to go buy a bunch of pretty candles. And mulled wine....

Veronika, buy some brown millet and eat a teaspoon of it every day.
You can mix it into yogurt or add it to soup. It works wonders—at age 30, I couldn’t climb stairs or ride a bike anymore because the pain was so bad. Then brown millet was recommended to me, and I haven’t had to have knee surgery to this day.
When my knee sounds like there’s sand in the gears while I’m climbing stairs, I take some brown millet right away, and the pain goes away quickly.
We’re in for a busy weekend—the corn needs to be ensiled, and I’m making cheese from 25 liters of milk every day.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and plenty of time for crafts.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend, and to anyone who needs it, I hope you get well soon. Yes, we eat brown millet in our muesli every day—and actually, my joints are feeling really good.

This weekend, I’m going to try my hand at making fresh olives. It’s the first time I’ve ever pickled them myself.

Thanks, Johansi, for the tip. I’ve never heard of brown millet before.
Which kind do you use? There’s organic brown millet, regular, and so on.

Maybe it’ll help my knees, too—they crunch really loudly when I climb stairs.

Stay healthy, everyone

I’m only familiar with organic brown millet; here, it’s only available at specialty mills and organic grocery stores.
The crunching sound comes from the bones rubbing together. Brown millet quickly forms cartilage around the joints, which stops the crunching. Many surgeries could be avoided if only we still knew the old remedies.

I’ll have to look up that brown millet thing online. The pain in my hands is getting worse and worse :-(

Yesterday I pickled some zucchini in sweet-and-sour sauce. We get to open the jar tomorrow—I’m curious to see how it turned out.

Today we’re off to the flea market. The weather’s pretty iffy—we’ll definitely need an umbrella

I’ve already had surgery on my knee—I have artificial ligaments in there—it was a sports injury. No one has figured out yet what’s causing the pain and stiffness every few years; nothing crunches, it doesn’t swell up or get hot—nothing. The pain is also in the back of my knee, while the screws are in my thighbone and shinbone, so not there at all.
Anyway, the worst seems to be over; I haven’t needed any painkillers today yet, and experience tells me that starting Tuesday I’ll be able to walk around normally again. For quite a while, I hope—the surgery was in 1993, and this was the fifth or sixth time it’s flared up.

Have a great Sunday.

Get cozy on the couch, just like me, with a ☕ and my beloved gingerbread.

Oh, Andrea, that really looks cozy. We’re about to head out to meet up with some friends. I’m sure there’ll be some delicious cake there, too.

Well, it’s still a bit too early for me to be thinking about gingerbread and the like.
@Veronika, be glad you need so few painkillers—thanks to the weather, I’m currently once again close to the maximum daily dose I’m allowed to take. These past few days have been so bad that I’ve been nothing but crying. I’ve taken everything I was allowed to, but it always takes a while for them to kick in. I’ve been dealing with this since 2007; for about 6 years now, there haven’t been any treatment options left, and I just have to live with it. With a damaged spine and damaged nerves, no doctor can help me anymore. I could have another surgery, but then I’d end up in a wheelchair—and I definitely don’t want that!!! So I just try to get by as best I can. My motto is:
**Life is beautiful—no one ever said it would be easy!**

Best regards, Inge

For now, get well soon! And otherwise: hang in there!
Running out of treatment options often happens faster than you’d like—I’m seeing that right now with my husband, too, though luckily he’s in very little pain. You just have to always focus on the positive and reshape your life. And I think your motto is great—I’ll keep that in mind!

You always learn something new here… whether it’s “brown millet for joint pain” (just ordered some) or “words of wisdom.” Great! Thank you all for your openness and your comments.

Andrea, that picture of your gingerbread really made my mouth water! But I’m still holding back bravely. Though you’ve got years’ worth of catching up to do :-)

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone.
Warm regards, Ina
