Worry stones: do you like them?

There are said to be people who like holding worry stones in their hand. Are you one of them too?

Dear Josefa, whether I want to or not... every fall, shiny, bright brown-red chestnuts find their way into my jacket pockets. For a while, they become my little objects to hold in my hand. When they eventually lose their shine, they unfortunately have to leave my pockets again.

That’s a fun idea, but I always have something in my pocket, too. I was just at the Baltic Sea, and a stone ended up in my pants pocket—it’ll stay there until I find a new one, or maybe a chestnut in the fall. Holding these things in my hand and playing with them is soothing—for me, at least. Best regards, Veronika

Unfortunately, I don’t have a free hand for hand stones, because I’m either holding onto my walker or my crutches.

I often carry chestnuts in my jacket pocket in the fall—I like their smooth texture. In my “vacation jacket,” which I usually wear on walks while on vacation, there’s a completely smooth stone. It always finds its way back in there, even after I wash the jacket.

I really love hand stones. I run a gemstone and healing stone shop, and we have hand stones in all shapes and sizes. Even if you don’t believe in them, you often find that stones can have a healing effect. They’re definitely soothing.
Inge, you don’t have to hold them in your hand all the time—they’re happy to hide in your pants or jacket pocket. When you need to—while watching TV, for example—you can let them glide through your hand; that keeps your fingers supple. If you ever want to try it, just let me know, and I’ll give you one as a gift.

Personally, I prefer amber; it has such a warm aura about it. I also have a lot of jewelry made of and featuring amber.
