Crocheting Children's Clothing

What should you keep in mind when crocheting children's clothing?

I think it’s important for children’s clothing that the material feels comfortable against the skin and is also easy to care for.

I agree. There’s nothing worse for a child than having to wear scratchy clothes. And since children’s clothes need to be washed more often, they should be machine-washable. And if you’re going to put in the effort, the clothes should ideally “grow with the child” so they can be worn for longer.
It’s nice when the child can have a bit of a say too, for example by helping choose the color or style.
But once they reach a certain age, it becomes difficult to crochet or knit for children.
By then, they often already have very clear ideas about what they want to wear. They take a lot of cues from their friends and see crocheted items as old-fashioned. I think that should be respected. My grandchildren are happy when I crochet an amigurumi for them, but they wouldn’t wear crocheted or
knitted clothing. If you can sew, it’s easier. Sewn items are more readily accepted, and it’s also easier to cater to individual preferences that way.
