Filet Crochet

Dear users, dear authors,
what is the technique of filet crochet suitable for (and not suitable for)?

Filet crochet is suitable for various doilies and similar items, as well as for curtains

Filet crochet creates an airy, openwork pattern, so the piece “grows” quickly. With thin filet yarn, you can crochet beautiful table runners, doilies, trims, curtains, and more. With slightly thicker cotton yarn, you can crochet shopping nets, tunics, or other tops.
Because of its openwork structure, the filet crochet technique is not at all suitable for amigurumi, which need to be stuffed. The stuffing would be visible and would come through the holes.
However, you can crochet hollow figures using the filet crochet technique. These must then be heavily stiffened.
An example would be an angel like this:

My youngest daughter once crocheted this curtain for me for a birthday, and I love it, especially in summer, because it keeps the sun out a little better than a light white one.

Angels and curtains are beautiful.
Do you need those thin needles for filet crochet—the kind you can prick your fingers with?

That depends on how fine the yarn is.
But I work with crochet hooks up to 1.5 mm at most. That’s just about manageable. I crocheted the angel once with a 2.0 mm hook and once with a 1.5 mm hook.
