Summer Outfit

My new summer outfit—a custom piece I sewed for myself today. The tunic is my own design, and I used the leftover fabric to make a matching
bag.

Really great! I love the fabric in those fresh colors. When I was looking at the bag today, I was already thinking, “What a beautiful fabric under that big flap.” Now I see it in all its glory—and it looks wonderful on you. I also like the tunic style; it drapes nicely and is airy, and it’s just the right length to make an impression. Pair it with light-colored summer pants and the matching bag. You look absolutely fantastic in it!!! When you go for a walk with your husband wearing this, everyone will turn to look at you ;-)

Today I also added a short jacket made of poplin, unlined and easy to throw on. The jacket pattern is the same as the tunic.

What is poplin?

Josefa, poplin is a special type of cotton fabric; it has very fine, barely visible ribs and feels almost like a sturdy cotton fabric. Poplin is often used for coats, jackets, pants, and skirts. It’s a very versatile fabric that can take a beating and isn’t delicate.
For one of my daughters, I once sewed a dark blue poplin coat about 35 years ago—ankle-length, with a box pleat in the back about 20 cm wide, a removable winter lining, and a hood. She loved that coat because it was something she’d asked me to make for her. However, I spent almost 6 weeks working on that coat, since I was still working full-time back then.

What was that line from a song on that children’s show? *If you don’t ask, you’ll stay dumb* :-) I can’t remember what that show was called, though.
