Lighthouse winding

Today I was at “Wollhimmel.” There was a small yarn cake on the counter that I thought was absolutely fantastic. Such beautiful, vibrant colors.
When I asked about the length and price, they said, “Then you’ll have to buy both—that’s how it works with lighthouse yarn cakes.”
The saleswoman showed me all kinds of yarn, but I didn’t really understand any of it. Too bad the owner wasn’t there.

My question for you:
Do you work with Leuchtturm-Wicklung? If so, do you crochet or knit with it? What do you make with this yarn? Why is it called Leuchtturm-Wicklung?
Maybe one of you can tell me more about it.

Now I’m curious too, so I did a search and only found the “Lighthouse Scarf.” It seems to be a special winding technique using two coordinating bobbles that are alternately knitted into stripes.

It’s two yarn cakes that you need for the “Lighthouse Shawl”. They come in different colors, and the yarn cakes aren’t wound identically color-wise. 
So it’s yarn wound especially for this shawl..... 
I checked the “Elias wollehimmel” online shop. You can get the yarn cakes there, including the pattern. 
But it’s really annoying when you don’t feel you got good advice in the shop and actually have to look it up online first.

Maybe I’ll give it a try myself someday. I can only really do knit stitches well, though… wink.

I’ve only seen the shawl in various pictures..... You can do it 👍
It shouldn’t be that difficult—the shawl really “comes alive” through the colors, if I’m seeing it right....
