We’ll be staying home, because I’m really happy just to get my household somewhat in order—I can barely move and am in constant pain. Getting in the car to visit family would just be a source of stress.
We’re staying home too and aren’t having any visitors. Depending on the weather, we’ll go for walks, knit, read—we’ve also got a few movies left to watch—so everything’s great.
My husband’s situation is similar to Inge’s; hopping in the car and driving a good 100 km to visit family just isn’t an option right now. And even here at home, he likes to lie down in the afternoon and then sleeps soundly, so no visitors until he’s feeling better.
We’re staying home, too. I have to work on Good Friday and Saturday anyway.
My kids let me know at the last minute that they’re coming to visit over Easter, and I’m especially looking forward to that.
My brother wants to come, too, but he’ll be staying overnight at our parents’ house.
I’ll grab some Easter decorations from the basement tomorrow and put together some Easter-themed decorations.
One of these days I’ll make my lasagna again, and on Easter Sunday we’re invited to my parents’ for a barbecue, weather permitting. (With an electric grill on the balcony.) I’ll bring a mixed salad.
It’s all very laid-back.
Maybe we’ll go to the Easter bonfire nearby, and on Easter Monday there’s an Easter dance.
: on Maundy Thursday, we’re planning an Easter bonfire in the garden
; on Good Friday, we’ll be at my in-laws’ with my brother-in-law for a Maultaschen dinner
; and on Easter Sunday, we’ll have the house—or hopefully the garden—full of family. A long breakfast, an egg hunt, lots of cakes, and a lovely get-together. I’m really looking forward to it!
My boyfriend and I are driving to visit my sister and her husband. They live a 4-hour drive away. I’m not usually a fan of holiday trips because of the crowded highways, but we rarely get the chance to see each other otherwise, and all four of us are really looking forward to it. My sister is a baker, and her husband is a chef. On the way home, you’ll be able to roll us home. ;-)
On a clear day, we have a wonderful view of the Alps from their house. I’m bringing my crochet supplies, but I’ll probably only use them on the road.
Well, for us, Easter actually started last Sunday... Palm Sunday (palm blessing), Holy Week... Today, Good Friday, we had the Good Friday liturgy in the afternoon; tomorrow, the Easter Vigil service, followed by the Easter festive service... During the Easter Vigil service, I’ll be joining six other musicians to enhance the celebration.
On Easter Sunday, we’re invited to brunch with neighbors (the whole neighborhood); for the kids (young and old), it’s time to hunt for Easter baskets... then the whole group heads to church... afterward, we go home and have a barbecue for an early dinner.... depending on how many people are there, somewhere between 4–6 people.... On Easter Monday, the whole family is coming over (15 people, including 3 “grown-up” kids) for brunch—that could take a while... In the afternoon, there’s an Easter bunny hunt in between... so it’s a full schedule...
I’m looking forward to it—Easter is a very big celebration for us... both church and family...
Oh, that all sounds wonderful. For some of you, it sounds like a very sociable time.
Today we had visits from our children, children-in-law, and grandchildren. We looked for Easter surprises, played games, and feasted. Now we’re looking forward to a quiet evening.
Over the next few days, my husband and I will be home alone and plan to continue working on our greenhouse. And I’ll finally get back to sewing. I’ll have plenty of time to do that in a nice relaxed way.
I wish you all a wonderful Easter—just the way you like it: alone, as a couple, with family, with friends and neighbors, or with your congregation. Plus, good weather is forecast everywhere. What more could you ask for around here?
We were actually supposed to celebrate Easter Sunday here with our annual Easter brunch, egg hunt, and so on… but for Mini and me, it’s up in the air because I’m feeling under the weather and Mini has a high fever (his temperature “loves” to go over 40… we’ve even had it hit 41 once…) and bronchitis, including pseudocroup. On top of that, he’s now also dealing with diarrhea and vomiting 😩
So the brunch will probably be moved to my mom’s place, and the guests will be “reassigned.” And I’ll stay home with Mini. Why ruin everything for everyone?! Mini is still way too little anyway and doesn’t understand any of this, so it’s not that big of a deal.
Unless, of course, a miraculous full recovery happens overnight *fingers crossed*
Dear Nina, I hope the critical phase is already over and your little one is feeling better. Yes, it’s hard to see it from the outside, and as a mother, you’re closer to it than anyone else. You’ll just have to make up for Easter together later. The most important thing is that your little boy is feeling better again. Everything else can wait.
Dear Ina,
thanks for asking.
Yes, the little one is feeling better again, but he’s not quite back to full health yet.
But we’ll make up for the brunch on Pentecost (fingers crossed), because all the kids tested positive this morning. Yesterday I at least tested the one little one who was invited to a birthday party—she was still negative then. And on Thursday, the little one tested negative because she had to get tested for daycare.
We adults—including the oldest, who no longer lives at home—are all negative.
Well, we had an Easter egg hunt and all that here too 😉
Life isn’t easy and constantly presents us with new challenges. You have to accept the situation as it is and make the best of everything. There will be more relaxed and carefree times again. You’re just putting in the work now so you can enjoy the rest of the year. Keep your chin up and treat yourself to a break in the sun or with some cheesecake. You can enjoy that whether you’re positive or negative. There’s always room for a little indulgence! And having fun with the family is always a good idea, too. Just make the best of it! Moms can do that ;-)
Yeah, we’ve got it pretty good here!
Sunshine, the garden, the ice cream truck stops by in the afternoon…
And before you know it, the kids are up to their old tricks again 😉
