Cowl or shawl?

A while back, I knitted myself a little cowl out of some wonderful yarn. 



Yesterday I unraveled it again. I just wasn’t happy with it. Wrapped twice, it was too loose for me; wrapped three times, it was too tight.

When I have a triangular shawl, I’m happy. I love triangular shawls, whether for summer (cotton yarn) or winter.

  Which do you prefer? What do you wear? And most importantly, how do you wear it? Tight around your neck to keep warm, or more loosely just as a pop of color?

I’ve now cast on a triangular shawl with that yarn and am happily knitting away.

It really lets the colors and patterns shine.

I like both—but shawls are more versatile—you can also wear them as a shoulder shawl 😉

For a loop, I always use a loop as a reference if I like its “length” and then adjust the stitch count accordingly (though I usually crochet). Crafts | Photo – Free Crochet Pattern Loop // Tube Scarf // Möbius Scarf Crossy (crazypatterns.net) This one was for my son and wrapped around twice perfectly without being too loose or too tight 😉

Yes, I’m also curious to see how the yarn’s color gradient turns out. But then I think to myself that I won’t really know if I like it until the scarf is finished and wrapped around my neck.

I like both—with a loop scarf, of course, the circumference has to be right, and not every pattern works.
With a triangle shawl, you’re more flexible in how you wear it.
For you, I like the shawl better than the loop scarf now.
