You like dolls, don’t you? Here you can chat about sewing doll clothes and accessories, sewing doll clothing, and also about doll sewing patterns. What do you need to watch out for? Which fabric is best? Any tips and tricks?

I was able to take some fabric scraps home from work before the pandemic, and I’ve already tried sewing a few things for dolls.

When making doll clothes, it’s also helpful to check the fit on the doll every now and then, because even dolls of the same size can have very different proportions, depending on whether it’s a baby doll or an “adult” doll. (An extreme example: a 30-cm doll—that could be a Barbie doll or a “child” doll!)

Doll clothes should be easy to put on and take off, because young children aren’t very dexterous yet and quickly lose patience if they can’t get it right away. I find that doll dresses that fasten in the back work best. That way, you can make the back neckline as low as you like. Complicated fasteners like small buttons and hooks are also not as advisable. Snap fasteners or Velcro closures are better.

Here are a few doll dresses I sewed for my grandchildren. The last two pictures show a reversible dress.
