I'm new here and need your help, please. I'm working on a project that's crocheted in rounds, and I keep ending up with a misalignment whenever I start a new round. It looks messy. Is there another way to do this?

Hi!

What is it exactly? To prevent this from happening, you end the round with a slip stitch and start with a chain stitch. With amigurumi, however, you usually crochet in spiral rounds without a slip stitch.

Thanks for your reply. I always make a slip stitch and a chain stitch, but I still end up with this offset. I’ve already unraveled it 100 times—I’m starting to get desperate.

One way to avoid the misalignment is to turn the work after each round, even though you’re working in rounds. However, this creates a texture similar to crocheting in rows. Depending on the project, though, that can actually look very nice.

Thanks. I’ve already tried that, but unfortunately it doesn’t work either. I’m crocheting with two colors and using single crochet stitches, and that’s where you can really see the misalignment. With half double crochet and double crochet, it’s not a problem.

If you’re crocheting in spiral rounds, you can work a single crochet stitch to shift the start of the round. Then place a marker (I use a piece of yarn in a different color) on the next stitch to mark the start of the round.
Kind regards

Wait. You mean the color change..
then forget everything after good morning ☺
could you make the color change already on the last stitch of the row?

Thanks for your help. Yes, I’ll take a photo. Sorry for the late reply—it’s been a tough day. See you later. Have a good night. Best regards, Gabi

Hi Oksi, does your pattern also cover crocheting in rounds with a color change at the beginning? That isn’t clear from the link, especially since I have to buy the pattern?
Best regards, Gabi

A photo would really help. Do you start using the new color at the beginning of the new round, or do you use it to close the old round? In other words, do you bring in the new color when crocheting the slip stitch?

I just got home. I’ll try to post a photo later. You’re right—a photo would be better. Before I make the slip stitch, I pull the yarn in the new color through. Thank you so much for your reply. Best regards, Gabi

Here’s a photo to start with. I’ll post two more later showing the front and back.

Me again...
when you close the round with a slip stitch and a chain stitch, do you insert the hook into the base stitch of the chain stitch?

Yes, I will. This is a sample piece. I’ll send another photo of what it’s supposed to be. Thanks, Mupfelbea

Hi oksik. I just bought your pattern and am very disappointed—it has absolutely nothing to do with crocheting in rounds with color changes at the start of the round. I’ve posted 3 photos; I think you can see what I mean… €3 wasted.

It’s me again...
I’d like to crochet a hot air balloon with a teddy bear in the basket soon, so I’m also interested in getting the color change just right.
Take a look here, around the 16-minute mark—color change with single crochet—

Hopefully I’ll find the time tomorrow to try it out myself...
But if you figure it out before I do, it would be great if you could let me know.
Just don’t give up!!

Thank you so much, Mupfelbea—that’s so sweet of you. Of course I’ll let you know—I haven’t come up with a solution yet. I’m slowly starting to lose hope. Good night

So....
I just gave this a quick try!
No misalignment!!!
I didn’t really like the first few rounds because, although there was no misalignment, a small gap formed. But it’s very easy to fix with a needle and thread—and the repair is invisible—if you’re very particular about such things.
The next rounds turned out better because I made the chain stitch tighter.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the right hook size for this yarn because I’m on vacation and don’t have all the necessary supplies with me.
Now I’m really curious to hear what you think.

First of all, thank you so much for your effort. I’m speechless—it’s great that you’ve figured it out; I’m probably just too clueless... Do you have any misalignment on the back, like that annoying slant?
Is there any way you could take a photo?
I wish you a relaxing and wonderful vacation with lots of sunshine.
Warm regards, G.
