Crocheting a securing chain stitch

Dear users, dear authors,
how do you make a securing chain stitch?

I've never heard that term before. I'm curious to find out...

I came across this in a product description and have never heard of it before. So I thought I’d ask the forum. :-)

I’m in the same boat as Ruth.

I can only guess: maybe make a tight chain stitch at the beginning of your project so the following stitches don’t come undone.

I’m familiar with this from finishing off a crochet project. Before you cut the yarn and pull it through the last stitch, you crochet a “securing chain stitch,” then cut the yarn and pull it through.

But with some types of cluster stitches, you also crochet a securing chain stitch after you’ve picked up the yarn and pulled it through X yarn overs.

🤔 I only know this from my grandma... Whenever she put her work aside, she would always crochet a few chain stitches as a safety measure, so that the pattern wouldn’t accidentally unravel when she took it out again...
But maybe someone else knows more????
