My own patterns for well-known characters

Hi, I crocheted an R2-D2 and would like to upload the pattern I designed myself to CP and sell it. Am I allowed to do that? Or does the pattern have to be free? And even if it’s free, would I still be infringing on any Star Wars rights? I’ve also found patterns for Hello Kitty and the Minions online. So it must be allowed, right? Does anyone know anything about this?

You’ll always find patterns that really shouldn’t be published because they infringe copyright, intellectual property rights, etc.
It doesn’t matter whether they’re free or paid—copyright infringement is copyright infringement. And if there’s any doubt, it can get veeeery expensive!

I agree with Nina. Just because something is on the internet doesn’t mean it’s allowed. So I wouldn’t take the risk of legal trouble.

I also agree with the two previous commenters. This is copyright infringement and grounds for a cease-and-desist letter, which could get very expensive. So far, the corporations haven’t discovered the pattern market yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Disney, for example, has already had the publication of photos of their fabrics banned. Such photos may therefore no longer be used for sewing patterns, for instance. And we’re only talking about fabrics here, not characters. I don’t even want to think about what might happen with characters eventually.
