There’s quite a bit going on here on Crazypatterns, especially with the patterns.
I think it would be nice if we got to know each other better.
Would you like to join in here in this thread?
So that we can grow together as a “community,” make new connections, and get to know each other better—crocheting, knitting, sewing, embroidering, macramé, felting... it’s all so much more fun together.
And when you know the person on the other end of the internet connection a little better, the dialogue and exchange here in the forum are much more enjoyable, too.
Oh, so you’re curious :) What do you want to know? Your avatar looks funny—you need a new one ;)
But you can still make out the word “Clara.” You’re right, though—it’s more fun in the forum when you know people at least a little bit.
Hello everyone,
I’m Josefa, I’m a moderator here and would like to liven up the forum a bit. For that, I’d need your help—I’d be delighted to see lively participation in the threads.
Hi, I’m new here, too. I’m Nicole, and I do a lot of crafts whenever my family and studies allow. Embroidery is my favorite, though I’ve also discovered lots of great crochet patterns here. The embroidery section seems to be a bit underrepresented here so far, but maybe that will change :)
I’m curious to see what it’s like here and will just wait and see.
Embroidery isn’t a huge topic here yet, but if someone writes enthusiastically about it, starts new threads, asks questions, and all that, then other users will surely join in, and more embroiderers will come here.
Good evening, everyone!
I’ve been quietly reading along here for a few weeks now; I actually wanted to participate more often, but I haven’t found the time yet.
I have the day off tomorrow, so I can stay up a little later tonight. I’m using the time to add my two cents here and there in the forum.
About me: I’ve been a fan of handicrafts since I was a child. I’m somewhere between 45 and 50. By candlelight, I could even claim to be in my early 40s without it being too obvious. I have a dog, a husband, and two grown children. My husband and children aren’t interested in handicrafts. The dog mostly doesn’t care, as long as it doesn’t interfere with his daily walks.
I’m hoping for lots of interesting discussions and maybe one or two nice contacts with other ladies who are enthusiastic about handicrafts. I haven’t spotted many men here while skimming through the posts yet. But I guess that’s pretty typical in the world of handicrafts. :)
@HaseHaseSternchen
hi :)
Glad you're here now too. Age doesn't matter here. We're among friends here.
But I'm sure you look great. :)
My cats don't care about crafts either, as long as they don't feel like playing with the yarn again.
We don't have very many gentlemen here, but maybe that will change.
Have you found anything interesting yet?
Hello everyone,
so, a bit more detail, to get to know each other?!
I passed the 50 mark a few years ago, have two children; the older one, 30+, has already made me a grandmother, and the little one is only nine.
Our two cats love handicrafts, especially the pieces that aren't being ac
tively worked on. I've been doing crafts since I was ??? - always have?
Good morning, everyone,
I wanted to correct my post, but it doesn’t seem to work?!?
So just a quick note about the gibberish — my cat was typing along with me... I deleted most of it again, but as I can see, not all of it.
Of course, it should say... that aren’t currently being worked on,
and... I’ve been doing needlework since...
Are you all already hard at work making Christmas gifts too??
I still have to quickly finish two birthday gifts first—it’s totally unfair to have a birthday in October and November (-;
and on Tuesday, my sister talked me into a “STRIPE WORKSHOP” —I’m already curious to see what’s in store......
I’ll report back here about it
see you later
Michaela
Hi Faltenstirn,
unfortunately, you can’t edit your posts after they’re posted. I’ve wanted to add something or make a correction a few times myself, but it just isn’t possible.
Cats on the keyboard—I know the feeling. That seems to be their favorite spot.
To be honest, I haven’t given Christmas gifts any thought yet, but I’ll think about that too.
You’re pretty hardworking—compliments.
Good morning everyone,
so—boy out of the house—now I can write.
The strip workshop was a nice afternoon; for me it wasn’t anything new, more like reviving something I had already done many years ago.
Namely cutting old clothes or fabrics into strips (a special technique to get the strips as long as possible) and recycling them.
Crocheting, knitting, or braiding.
(Back then I made a rug because I couldn’t find anyone to weave me a rag rug according to my ideas.)
The whole thing is very reminiscent of the thick T-shirt yarn that is so “in” right now.
It’s suitable for making rugs, seat cushions, or similarly thick pieces from it.
What I like so much about it is that now I won’t throw another piece into the containers whose contents are sold in Africa!!!
My first planned piece will be a basket for the strips ((-:
before they are processed further. Though I’m afraid the cats will want it for themselves
Ah, there you are again, Faltenstirn / Michaela
—so that’s what they mean by the “strip technique”; I could’ve figured that out myself.
So you liked the class?
The last time I was at the local yarn shop, I admired those big, heavy skeins with fabric strips or ribbon yarn in this season’s trendy colors. Those things cost 10 euros per skein. I thought that was a bit pricey.
But the lady at the store said you use them for crocheting things like bags, with an extra-large crochet hook.
I really like those patchwork rugs made from old fabric strips—I have a few of them myself.
I did some research online—as far as I know, you cut up old clothes in a spiral pattern so the strips are as long as possible. Knots in the strips aren’t very comfortable when you walk on them. The sewn-together sections are also a bit thicker than the rest.
Aren’t there online services where you can send your old clothes, and they make something out of them?
I don’t remember how much that costs, though.
But as an old hand at handicrafts, you wouldn’t go through a company for that.
Do you sew the strips together, by hand or with a sewing machine?
Not many people have a carpet-sized loom at home.
So you’re really hard at work on this now?
Tell me, what’s that on your avatar picture, anyway?
wishing you a healthy and creative New Year too :) and a warm welcome to the forum. Well, as I can see, you’ve definitely come to the right place here. Thanks to this platform, I’ve also started crocheting more again, even though I usually spend more time on embroidery. But a change of pace livens up everyday life ;)
Dear all,
I discovered the forum a few days ago — it’s great! Let me briefly introduce myself:
I’m 70 years old, married, with 4 children (52, 50, 48, 40) and 6 grandchildren (18, 16, 11, 11, 10, 2 years old — the 11-year-olds aren’t twins).
I’m from Bavaria and moved to Spain, but I’m often back home.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!!!!!!
And I’d like to know what the difference is between operator and moderator. Thanks
Hello Heide
I’m glad you found your way here to us. :)
From Bavaria to Spain - that sounds exciting. I’m a little envious.
Difference between operator and moderator
operator: That’s Alexander; crazypatterns belongs to him, and he takes care of the technical side of things.
moderator: That’s Josefa; she takes care of communication-related matters, among other things.
