Do something nice for yourself

when things aren’t going so well in your own little world.

I had one of those bad days yesterday. Actually, the whole week has been like that. But yesterday I got in the car and drove to the yarn shop. For two hours, I stroked the yarn, put it in my shopping cart, put it back on the shelf, and checked out the next skein.

Anything that was soft and didn’t itch me ended up coming home with me. I had such a lovely time in the store—it really did me a world of good.

And today I’m neatly organizing everything into cabinets and enjoying this colorful, soft splendor all over again.

I especially liked these colors

I need to find out what this yarn is called. It didn’t have a label.

And here I thought I’d knit all the colors together into a beautiful summer shawl. Let’s see how it turns out.

What helps you on a day like this, when nothing feels fun and you just want to crawl into bed and pull the covers all the way over your head?

That’s some really beautiful yarn you brought back.
It’s a great idea to treat yourself like that. I’ll keep that in mind for after the lockdown :-)

Hugs, Angi

Wow, Petra, what a joy—just looking at it makes me happy!
When I’m not feeling so great, I put on some nice music, grab my knitting needles and yarn, and then the world is back in order in no time. Yes, a purchase like that does me a world of good, too—though I usually do it online and order my favorite yarn.

Wow, Petra, you really went all out there. You picked out some great colors. I hope you have fun working with them.

My Christmas orders arrived today. For my husband, there’s a “cable drum full of Mettwurst.” It looks funny.
I ordered some shoes—for once. They’re warmly lined and cost €14.95 instead of €49.95. They fit well and are great to walk in.

Aaaand I bought some CDs. Six new ones for €1 each and five used ones for €1.50 each. Somehow I ordered one I didn’t even want, but I really like it. “Es lebe Jesus”—I was surprised at first, but they’re Christian songs from Schlager and folk music. They’re perfect for this time of year.
So tomorrow I can listen to music nonstop while I crochet.

Best, Marlies

Yeah, a yarn sale like that definitely lifts your spirits. Unfortunately, there’s nothing like that near us, and shopping online is only half as enjoyable.
But it’s true—when things really aren’t going smoothly, we also always have two ways to cheer ourselves up: one is expensive, and the other makes you gain weight. 😄

After embroidering candle holders for half the family, I’ve now embroidered one for myself too, because I usually forget about myself in the process — but not this time :-)

Best wishes, Inge

Oh, Inge, this is beautiful. I love poinsettias during Advent.

Your lantern is a dream, Inge! You’re an artist.

Today I dropped off my donations for the Kindertafel; Mr. Labus here in Schweinfurt was once again very happy to receive our gifts for the children. This is now the 10th time we’ve donated items such as children’s clothing and handmade toys, and we always do it before Christmas—preferably before St. Nicholas Day—so the Kindertafel can distribute them most effectively and bring joy to the children. I also told Mr. Labus that we’ll bring by again next year whatever we’ve managed to put together over the course of the year.
Mr. Labus is the man without a mask; I’m in the middle, and to my right is one of my grandsons—he helped me drop off the items.

After that, I stopped by the fabric store and bought two cozy fabrics—the green one will become a sweater and the gray one a pair of warm pants. I needed them after all the back-and-forth about what’s allowed and what isn’t because of this stupid pandemic. It really drives you crazy—one way today, another tomorrow, and something completely different the day after.

Love, Inge

@Inge,
do the people in the photo know that you’re posting it online?
If not, please let me know so I can remove the photo.

Well, the photo is also going to be in our daily newspaper, and it’s okay for me to post it in my forums, because Mr. Labus always tells me it can’t hurt if people learn about the Kindertafel, since they’re now all over Germany—and Mr. Labus is the head of all the Kindertafel organizations in the Federal Republic.
My grandson said to me, “Grandma, if it helps the cause, it’s okay with me.” :-)

Love, Inge

Dear Inge, I think it’s really great what you’re doing. I’ll have to find out more about the children’s food banks.

Wow, Inge, did you make all of this by yourself? That’s a huge amount! It’s great that you’re so dedicated to the kids. I’m sure it does them a world of good.

No, not just me—my oldest daughter and some friends from the sewing group helped out; I could hardly have managed it on my own :-)

Best regards, Inge
